Pathos Privacy Policy
Pathos exists to keep the voices of people you love safe. That only works if you can trust us with them. This policy says, in plain language, what we collect, what we do with it, and what we will never do.
What we collect
Account information. Your email address and a password (or your Apple/Google sign-in), used to create and secure your account.
The content you save. Voice recordings you record or upload, the names and relationships of the people you create, photos you attach, and consent attestations you record. This is your data — you own it.
Generated content. When you save a recording, we create a transcript, a suggested title, topic labels, and a quality score so your vault stays organized. These are derived from your recordings and belong to your account.
Purchase information. If you subscribe to Plus or buy Legacy, the purchase is processed by Apple. We receive purchase status (not your payment details) through RevenueCat, our subscription-management provider.
Basic technical data. Standard logs needed to run the service (requests, errors, storage usage). We do not collect advertising identifiers and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
How your recordings are handled
Recordings are stored privately in your account, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Only you can access them; every file path is scoped to your account and access requires short-lived signed URLs.
To provide features you expect, recordings are processed by trusted providers acting on our instructions: transcription (ElevenLabs), and titling/labeling (Anthropic). These providers process audio or transcripts to deliver the feature and are not permitted to use your content to train their models under our agreements. We are deliberate about this trade-off: full end-to-end encryption would make transcription and organization impossible. We say this honestly rather than pretend otherwise.
We never sell your data. We never use your recordings for advertising. No one's voice is used for anything except the features you choose.
Voice cloning and consent
Cloning a voice happens only if you choose to send a person's recordings to Ethos, our companion app — and only after a consent attestation is recorded for that person (from the person themselves, or from next of kin). When you initiate a transfer, selected recordings and the consent record are delivered to your own Ethos account. Ethos's own privacy policy governs them from there. Pathos never presents a cloned voice as the real person.
Your control
Export, free, forever. You can download your recordings at any time, on every plan. We will never hold a voice for ransom.
Deletion. Delete any recording or person at any time. Delete your entire account in Settings → “Delete account and all data” — this permanently removes your account, every recording, and all derived data from our systems.
Retention
We keep your content for as long as your account exists — that's the point of a vault. Deleted content is removed from production systems immediately and from backups within 30 days.
Children
Pathos is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. Recordings of any person are governed by the consent flow above.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll notify you in the app before the change takes effect. The current version always lives at getpathosapp.com/privacy.
